Mommy and Daddy are very proud to share the joy of our new arrival!
The adventure began on November 30, 2009 when we arrived for our Doctor's visit at 2:30pm. The previous week, we were informed that Laurie had dilated to 1cm. We were expecting that she would have progressed to 2cm this week. To our surprise, we were informed Laurie was now progressed to 3cm! We were a bit concerned that we would not make it to our scheduled induction date of Dec 21st.
Laurie and I both had to work that following night, I jokingly told Laurie is was grounded to the couch when she was home and when she was at work she was confined to a rolling chair. The whole goal was to make it to our scheduled induction on Dec 21st. Later that night, I even directed Laurie's friend and co-worker Chris Powell, that it was her job all night to make sure Laurie didn't over do it.
On the morning of Dec 1st, 2009, we both made it home and settled in for some sleep by 9:30am. Laurie slept every well that day, usually she is up every 2 hours, but on this day she slept very hard until she awoke at 3:30pm. Shortly after, Laurie told me that it felt as if Alyssa had "jumped" in the womb and she may be having some slight contractions. We figured that these may be just Braxton Hicks contractions and Laurie decided to lay down for a while, to see if Alyssa would settle down. I decided to go out and spend some time working on the yard.
After a short time outside, Laurie called me back in. The contractions were not easing. After a few calls to the doctors office, we headed to the hospital for a quick evaluation.
We arrived at the hospital at 4:15pm, and the evaluation began. Shortly after 5pm, we were informed by the nurse that not only had Laurie's water borke, but she was now dilated to 5cm! Braxton hicks be darned, this baby was coming now!
The process of moving Laurie from the testing room to a labor/delivery room began. At 6:30pm, we had just made it into the labor/delivery room and the nurse decided to check Laurie's progress. In about 1 hour Laurie had progressed from 5cm to 9cm! We were both surpised at how fast this was going. At this rate we expected Alyssa's delivery any time.
Laurie began pushing at about 8:15pm. After what Laurie will describe as 2 very long hours of pushing, the doctor arrived. 30min later, at 10:48pm, with the brief assistance of our doctor, Alyssa Kay Campbell arrived in this world! At 6lbs 5oz and 19" long, Alyssa touched the hearts of everyone in the room!
Mommy and baby are now both at home and doing great!
